We are often asked – what made us build The Tipsy Mare? …..
What inspired us to go out and buy a broken-down Horse float and turn it into the amazing mobile bar she is today??….
Well before having our three beautiful kids, Hubby & I would sit back and chat about what we would like to do later in life.
One of our dreams is to own a Bar/ Bed and Breakfast with camping and activities.
I know what your thinking… Not the bar/accommodations we dreamt of, but this is just a steppingstone in our long-term goals. Start Small- Aim Big!
With myself already in the Event industry, I had been thinking about starting my first business offsider. Something to call our own.
We set out with our small loan to find the perfect float to build into our characteristic bar.
Me being the inpatient one found one for a great price and rushed out to buy it. (Forehead slap)
We brought her home to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and started work straight away, pulling her old tin sheeting and flooring up to discover what was hidden underneath the brand-new flooring… Yep you guessed it …. RUST!! (another forehead slap)
So, this was the first of many kicks in the guts and learning curve to our very long 2-year build.
After plenty of research we found a trailer fabrication guru In Yandina, that would help us get the frame and suspension back to near new! This was a relief as I know next to nothing about welding!!
The boys sacrificed their weekends in-between their day jobs to get the chassis and frame back together. Then the new navy-blue Colourbond Sheeting and checker plate sheeting was added.
While all this was happening, I had been working on the design for the barn style serving windows and internal fit out design.
We wanted to make it feel rustic to suit the theme and what better then some barn features.
Once again, I was on the hunt for a local cabinet maker that had skills and understood my vision.
We found someone very local with years of experience and an award winner in NZ for his kitchens! Willing to work with me every step of the way to make my dream a reality.
Over the next few months, it started to take shape and fair dinkum didn’t we get excited!! Painting & staining became my every day normal for a little while.
THEN BAM!!
Just like that after all the Blood, sweat, money and tears!! The Tipsy Mare was finished!
We wanted our bar to be one of a kind, stand out piece. Something new to the Sunshine Coast event industry, exciting to look at … and WOW just check out all the details we put into the design. Everything was custom built right down to the barn style cabinetry work on the inside. With a Three Door bar fridge and ample draws and Cupboard space, wash up area and Built in Ice sinks!! She’s a dream come true!
We can’t wait for you to see her in person…
When she’s at your next event we would love for you to hop in and have a look she’s just as amazing inside as she is on the outside.
Let Tipsy Be your signature piece at your next event!
